Letter to Our Boyfriends!
A GUYS GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING PMS!
"I don't understand why Bae is acting up", I hear some brothers shouting in exasperation!
CHILL OUT GUYS, LET ME EXPLAIN
Okay guys today I intend to talk about an "issue" that applies to Women that Men need to know, on the grounds that we are in this world for each other.
PMS to my Nigerian brothers will mean a lot of things including PREMIUM MOTOR SPIRITS, (lol) but that's far from what i'm referring to.
PMS is a GENDER SPECIFIC medical condition that i wish more than anything for men to know about as it will help you understand and monitor the females around you.
EVERY WOMAN SUFFERS THIS BUT IN VARYING DEGREES!
Yes women seem like "custom made" trouble and many times the "world of men" are unsure how to handle us.
But the truth is, many times the things we deal with are way beyond our control!
Ever wonder why your otherwise cheerful girlfriend is suddenly moody??
Why she eats like a Wolf at certain periods??
Why she cries for no reason?
Sleeps like a maniac sometimes,
And you have no idea why she is acting crazy?
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF PMS GUYS!
PMS is the acronym for PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME.
The Good news is PMS is not a terminal ailment and 15 out of 20 women suffer this. (that's quite a lot if you ask me)
PMS IS BASICALLY AN AILMENT AFFECTING LIFESTYLE.
One that requires a lot of support from people around.
PMS is every Inch as serious as it sounds, funny enough Some women are ignorant of this ailment.
A guy is probably wondering why I'm bothering him with "woman trouble".
Consider me your ANGEL OF LIGHT (thanks for the compliment. Lol) because i'm trying to save you from dealing with " disgruntled females".
(You really should be thankful. Lol)
If you don't LEARN the warning Signs, I can bet my intestine you'll keep getting BURNT!
As the name implies PMS is an ailment that centers around women, their monthly cycle and their periods.
(I'm hoping you know the difference between the terms "monthly cycle" and "period"?, if you don't I'm not sure how to help you!)
Monthly cycles are pretty much very distressing for women. To say the least, it really sucks!
Imagine bleeding profusely for some days in month. How fun can that be??
PREmenstrual syndrome happens before period. Most times it shows up 1-2weeks before the actual period, about the time a woman is ovulating.
PMS is simply the effects of HORMONES IN EXCESS and off course with RIDICULOUS SIDE EFFECTS which range from emotional to physical.
At this time of the month, the woman's PROGESTERONE and ESTROGEN levels surge at an erratic pace.
SYMPTOMS OF PMS
There are two basic classes of symptoms,
PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL SYMPTOMS.
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS
1. Bloating: weight gain and sometimes protruding stomachs.
2. diarrhea
3. Nausea and vomiting
4. Headaches
5. Abdominal pain
6. Breast Swelling and pain
7. Insomnia
8. Cramps
9. Tiredness
10. Skin reactions
11. Excessive Sleep
12. Excessive Sweat
13. Craving of foods unusual for her e.g Junk.
EMOTIONAL SYMPTOMS
1. Mood Swings
2. Irritability
3. Crying spells
4. Anxiety and Depression
5. Difficulty in concentrating on tasks
6. Prickly Behavior
7. Drop in self confidence
PMS however is different from woman to woman.
Some women are more sensitive than the others. So your Lady can react differently from the Lady next door.
Some months are certainly more severe than the others.
TREATMENT OF PMS
There is really no "Permanent solution" to this monster.
Simply put this condition can't actually be fixed but can be MANAGED EFFECTIVELY.
This isn't actually a National Problem(lol) but Everyone has a role to play.
For the women;
1. Taking PRESCRIBED multivitamins and food supplements.
2. Exercises
3. Taking Aspirins or Paracetamol.
Personally, i discovered taking Ginger tea helps me manage mine!
Nothing Tech, just grate the ginger, add water and sieve the extract.
For me the effect has been tremendous for months since I discovered.
For the men;
Massages to help her relax!
I hear my Nigerian brothers cursing Already. Lol.
The whole essence of writing about this detailedly is for both men and women to be able to identify this period.
I'm not trying to preempt kind gestures or evoke pity from the guys but The life of a woman is generally hard and we could use a LOT OF SUPPORT!
Guys when you notice this signs, please be PATIENT WITH US as we go through this Phase.
Please don't make jokes out of our nature, we never planned any of this!
For the Ladies, please do not hide behind this knowledge or your condition to be completely IRRESPONSIBLE!
As a matter of fact I have taken my time to explain so you can be able to mange this period YOURSELF if in the event that the men in your world don't care!
Ladies, Surviving is what we do!
You need to keep Surviving and I congratulate you for being a woman!
I STAND WITH THE GIRL CHILD,
YOU SHOULD TOO!
Love,
Your Fragile Giant.
